Hi anon, if you took a second to read my bio you’d know that I’m literally filipino BUT even if you’re not, it’s really really important that you still spread awareness and do all you can for the country right now because awful things are going down and it could really use the support. I don’t care whether your fili or not, if you see anything about what’s going on in the flipino government please take a minute to read it and stay fucking informed about the stuff happening.

I highly recommend you take a look at this post

i was going to reblog with a long ass paragraph making fun of this bored anon’s ass but I decided against it; i know you’re doing this just to incite a reaction you believe is funny when what we are trying to fight for is not a laughing matter. at all.

here are links to get educated. get woke, anon. its 2020, there is a world that exists outside of the United States. i hope in my heart of hearts that you can understand these, i feel like youre the kind of person who only likes to read if there are pretty pictures ☺️

Look at all of the above. Not all countries get as much media coverage as, for example, the US. But nearly all are dealing with prejudice-based problems.

If we can take something positive out of this horrible situation, we should, and let it be the general awareness, let it be us uniting to fight for the better future (however idealistic it sounds). Sure, working on solving the problems in your own country or state is the most effective from the up close, but we’re the loudest together.

While we’re trying to support the #BlackLivesMatter movement, I also can’t forget about the motherland. I can’t be off the grid for a good 12 hours (FINALLY HEADING HOME TO THE US! Peace out, London!) and not leave this behind for people to educate themselves.

We haven’t forgotten about the Black Lives Matter movement. Sadly, we’re adding on to this. Injustices just the same. All of this on top of the COVID-19 pandemic? Seriously.

The Senate Bill 1083 or the law on prevention of terrorist acts of 2020 has been approved by the Senate and has been deemed “urgent” by Duterte.

I’ve been trying to read up on this as much as I can but there isn’t much noise about it. And the few but very substantial things I have read are worrisome.

Here is a GDoc I found on Twitter of a lawyer with her comments on the bill. Here is a fact sheet about the bill.

Friends and family from the Philippines have sent me some infographics.

So what can we do?

Sadly, the Philippine government DOES NOT care for petitions. But we can bombard the Senate with e-mails.

Send an e-mail to the following:

  1. pcc@malacanang.gov.ph
  2. sysad@senate.gov.ph

E-mail the Senators. Their e-mail addresses are all here. I can’t believe these people do not have official government e-mail addresses. But that’s besides the point.

With the subject JUNK TERROR BILL and this content:

We urge for the rejection of the so-called “Anti-Terror Bill” to protect the fundamental rights of the Filipinos freedom to speech.

When I get back State-side, I will have a word with my uncharacteristically very quiet and very Filipino side of the family.

Reblogging this to add this link for more centralized information.

Today I learned that the bill has passed it’s second reading in the House of Representatives. This means that it is only ONE step away from being an actual law.

I don’t know what else to do from half a world away. But this is something… better than just sitting back in silence.
